closing bell
i quit my job and i’m moving to georgia. like ripping off the band aid. let me just get it out there. considering thus far this blog has been mostly about random recipes and food thought i ponder, to say something so life changing and personal feels awkward to share. but the truth is, my professional life, personal life, cooking life, social life, everything life has cosmically just united as one, and going forward, i’ll have no choice if talking about one to also be revealing the others. over the last three years, as i have walked, subwayed, and biked to my job on the floor of the new york stock exchange, my passion for food quietly snowballed between the hours of five pm to nine. dinners became events, weekends became food marathons, vacations were food focused, and the wall street journal was shelved for cook books. the culmination of all this, thus far anyways, is me making the choice to follow my passion for food and take an apprenticeship with a farmer name jason mann i contacted in athens georgia. He runs full moon farm, a biodynamic farm with produce and livestock located on a hundred acre historic farm called spring valley farm. He also owns a farm to table restaurant four miles away in town called farm255.
my last day of work is in two days. two more wake ups. two more taxis and two more subways. ten or twenty more metal detectors, bag checks and id scans. thirty more case sensitive passwords. two more mail runs and two more coffee runs. two more bagged lunches and two more suits. four more cuff links and four more bells.
as oh nine creeks shut and oh ten’s doorway blasts open the blog will most likely drop pace as real life speeds up. when the blog picks up again i’ll be well on my way to leaving brooklyn, moving to georgia, and working full time on a farm. if you liked the blog to date, i have a feeling you will like the next chapter more.
i wish you a very happy and safe new year. i encourage you to begin oh ten with renewed vigor and excitement—more than you ever knew you had. pay attention to your friends and loved ones and pay attention to your food. encourage your loved ones to eat healthy food and make better choices where they buy their food. read a lot of books and write things down as often as possible. enjoy yourself, set goals, and do your best to achieve them.
happy new year and speak to you soon.
